An old Aurabattler
Aura Battler Dunbine ( 聖戦士ダンバイン ) is a 1980s scifi animation from Sunrise studios.
Heres a brief description, Dunbine is set in Byston Well, a parallel world that resembles the countryside of medieval Europe with kingdoms ruled by monarchs in castles, armies of unicorn-riding cavalry armed with swords and crossbows, and little winged creatures called Ferario, or flying about offering help or hindrance depending on their mood. The main draw to the series were the insect-like Aura Battlers, used by the population of Byston Well to fight their wars. These fighting suits are powered by a powerful energy called "aura" or "life energy", which is transmitted to the suit by the pilot.
Though I never had a thing for Dunbine when I was small, I started checking them out recently. I had very vague images of the mechas cos due to the fact that the design wasn't all that great compared to the likes of Mazinger Z or Danguard Ace..
Pictured here is Billbine, the one Mecha from the animation that I kinda prefer more than Dunbine plus hes the only transformable mech in the show. Bought this vintage Clover Billbine off ebay awhile back, It came loose with no accesories and at a unresistable price.
Here's the wing caliber mode used fo flight and air battles...transformation is easy, flip in the feet, push them in, open the chest for the bird-like head and re-adjust the arms. Simplicity at its best. Pictured below are the smaller Dunbines with Billbine...
The smaller Dunbines are from the Sunrise collection candy toys, detailed, poseable and roughly 2.5 inches tall.
