THE 超合金

THE 超合金or Chou her Jin or chogokin is Japanese for Super Alloy,
It was later adopted by the Popy Toy company in 1972 as the name of a new line of die-cast metal robot and character toys sold in Japan. Chogokin toys were generally produced in ST (standard) or DX (deluxe) sizes. Standard sized robots are usually in the range of 5" tall with spring loaded shooting projectiles. The Deluxe sized robots are usually much larger and mostly transformable.  Though the deluxe pieces are highly sought after the smaller counterparts are part and parcel to the chogokin line.
In 2004, Bandai reissued the GT-series,  remolded from the classic vintage robots.

The chogokin Urge

Heres a back look at some older chogokins, before i post all the newer chogokin stuff, let's take a look at the older releases Bandai has given us. From the Soul of chogokin line circa 1997-98, Here's GX-01R(2002) and GX-02, Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger, Im not gonna post the details, GX-01R, R stands for renewal, Bandai redid the original GX-01 with added features and with lesser flaws.

Here's some pics
At the background is a mail-away Mazinger display box, diecast and opens up to reveal a hanger bay to display your Mazinger.

These guys have a fair amount of diecast, detailed and full of assesories, pricewise not that hefty too comparing to the vintage and other releases from other companies, The soul of chogokin line is not a bad place to start.

Not to mention articulated, most of them comes with a detailed box art and packed in classic styrofoam. Yup, styrofoam, now thats back to the good ol' days.
If you like diecast and not willing to pay a bomb, these guys are just the right recipe

Voltes 5 consists of a team of 5 vehicles which merges to form a mighty Robot. Transformation is easy and not much thinking involved, just snapping them into place. Heres the team....

The robot combination is quite easy but the weight makes the joints kinda loose especially the ball joints on the upper thighs but other then that its a great toy....

As you can articulation is good but no waist joint, has quite abit of accessories too, 6 extra fists, 1 foldable sword which fits into the chest, 1 chrome sword, chain knuckles, Gatling gun, 2 chodenji tops and a stand to fit the accessories. Theres also chest plate cover to cover the chest when you want to display Voltes with his original sword.

The damage is fair, 16 590 yen, being a combiner though hes not as tall as Zambot 3 or Godmars, This is a must-get for all Gokin fans....

Voltes V has its own good qualities that makes us wanna VOLT-IN!

Winged Dragon of RA

Here's one of my fave monsters from the anime series Yugioh duel monsters, The winged Dragon of RA, one of the three divine Egyptian God cards, Obelisk the Tormentor and Slifer the Sky Dragon. With Ra being the most powerful among the three god cards.

Heres a jumbo figure of the Ra in its plastic state, slight assembly required but simple assembly not like those pesky models kits that require hours of work.

Doesn't look like much when just open it up, parts and more parts, the only cool thing about them are some of them are made of solid plastic making them quite weighty.

Looks kinda tough but it just took me around 10 mins to get her up. No painting required as the parts are molded in the actual colour.

And presto!! completed and what a sight to behold, 13 inches tall and 7 inches wide, the box did a good job of disguising its full beauty of the figure.
The figures wobbles abit due the stand only supports the main body on a single pole bit other then that minor flaw, this is the best reincarnation of RA molded in plastic.

If you love winged monsters, have a thing for dragons or dig Yu-gi-oh, this is a must have, menacing and value for money, make sure you have some space for this one.....

Kotetsu JEEG!!!

First it was the black version now another Jeeg, Takara's 1998 reissue of the normal coloured version, which was my personal fave when I was just 8 yrs old, beats the coloured paper version I had or the Micronauts version which was a bad guy.....yup, Its good to be grown up and owning a JEEG!!!! BUILT UP!!!!!
Besides being the exact replica of the original 1975 version it also came with some retro intructions and a mini poster on the other side.

Next up.. Panzeroid and Jeeg's ultimate combination and also look forward to a all new slicker Jeeg chogokin.....

Kotetsu Jeeg Back in Black

Finally got my Black Jeeg yesterday, reissue of the classic 1975 Jeeg,  Takara rereleased in 2005 with a new Black paint coat. This version is way cool, kinda like Darth Vader with magnets.

Other then the new colour scheme, the other parts remained the same. Box colour scheme was also altered to a black and white theme much like the other Black version toys.

On a sad note, there wasn't a black version of Panzeroid to match, buut oh well, Im happier when there another hunk of plastic (or magnets) in my collection.
