Lion Voltron

In 1981 animation series Beast King GoLion (百獣王ゴライオン, Hyakujuo Goraion ) in Japan or affectionately known to us as Voltron Defender of the universe, appeared into our world, I knew my childhood will changed for eternity, featuring a team of five young pilots in five robot lions, which could be combined to form one mighty robot Voltron.

In this undefined future era, the Voltron Force was in charge of protecting the planet Arus (ruled by Princess Allura) from the evil King Zarkon, his son Lotor, and the witch Haggar, who would create huge Robeasts to terrorize the people of Arus. Despite being the first of the two robots to appear on American television, the "GoLion" version of Voltron was regarded as "Voltron III" within the toyline because, within the original planned "three-Voltron" continuity, Arus was the furthest setting from Earth's side of the universe ("Voltron I" being intended for the Near Universe, and "Voltron II" for the Middle Universe).

Here's a Voltron collector's set by Toynami, the same company that brought us the Masterpiece version, but in this set, even though there's lack of diecast, its an exact replica of the Masterpiece version and cost a fraction of the price of the original Masterpiece edition.
The individual Lions are quite nicely done. Here they are, the five lions......




#5 The Yellow Lion, driven by Hunk, the strong man in the team but has a soft heart for children, he wears orange uniform in the original series. The Yellow Lion's hangar was located inside a cave located in a desert near the castle.
 
 #4 The Blue Lion, driven by Princess Allura, the ruler of the Kingdom of Altair thus also Commander Keith's superior. However, the original pilot of the Blue Lion was Sven, the princess took over after his untimely death, during operational engagements, the Princess listens to Keith, Allura wears a pink uniform in the original series. The Blue Lion's hangar was located underneath the moat that surrounded the castle.

 #3 The Green Lion, driven by Pidge, the smallest and youngest in the team, specialises in science and martial arts, Pidge wears green uniform. The Green Lion's hangar was located in a forest near the castle.
 
#2 The Red Lion, driven by Lance, also second in command for the Voltron team, great pilot though sometimes reckless, Lance wears a blue uniform. The Red Lion's hangar was located inside a volcano near the castle.
 
 

#1 The Black Lion, Driven by Keith, the leader of the Voltron team, always quick to think and protective of Princess Allura, wears a red uniform. Black Lion's hangar was located on the large tower fronting the castle, which was previously occupied by a winged lion statue which hid it.


The five lions combine to form the mighty Voltron.....


The articulation for voltron was basic, still enough for some decent poses, accessories included was his sword and shield.
