DC Superheroes Gotham City villains The Penguin

Its either you hate him or love him, yes, from the depths of Gotham's underworld, The Penguin, although shadowed by infamous Joker for many years, The Penguin was one of Batman's classic foes.
After work, I had some spare time, so picked this up from some second-hand shop, with banged up box, this penguin seemed unwanted.

I wasn't disappointed at all, only due to the fact, he had his body painted white to mimick his smart shirt. New sculpt for the body and legs was the plus points of the figure. The lack of details on the costume are the minus points.

Well, they gave us 2 nicely painted plastic penguins too, so it isn't half as bad. Maybe one day, with the left over guns or missiles, I might revamp the oversized birds ala Batman returns.
The figure still looks great in display, as for poses, that's as much as I can do for now. The coat doesn't really cover the belly, I used a black rubber band to secure it, maybe a button should be there to secure it. Penguin really needs a tailor.

Well, that's all for now till next time....waugh waugh....

DC Retro action Superheroes Wave 4 Martian Manhunter

Yeah, wave 4 of the DC retro action are out, the wave includes Shazam, Black Adam, Darkseid and everybody's fave martian, Martian Manhunter , though the toystores don't have the other figures yet, only Martian Manhunter so here's the martian!!

MM comes with the new and improved body which doesn't hunch back when u pose him. Same articulation as the wave 3 figures. Minor flaws, the capes a real thin fabric and doesn't stay in place, the red bits seems to be the same fabric that will flake off in time, other then that, he's still one of my faves in Justice league.

Seriously, I have no idea how to pose him, but one major thing I digged about the figure was the head sculpt, the stagnant expression on the face grow on me....

I really dig that Mattel really did MM in his classic style but I guess what's really lacking was accesories, like maybe a interchangable hands or his martian head, retro is cool but I think fans also wanted an updated version. Mattel did try to follow close to the original mego line, well, too much retro-ness will kill us!!

All in all, the set is real neat to display on card or out, hopefully Mattel keeps them coming

Or else all of us fans will be looking like this.......

DC Retro action Superheroes wave 3 Flash

Another figure from the DC retro action Superheroes wave 3. Here's the Flash, though when the preview of the figures a few months back was released, featured a different headsculpt, to my disappointment, the actual one sold in the market is much different.

Flash features the same spandex suit with his classic lightning bolt insignia and with new improved body used, the hunchback syndrome is the thing of the past. Articulation is similar to the other figures from the line.

The only thing I dislike about the figure is the headsculpt, doesn't look as slick as I would hope it to be. The details on the boots are one the plus sides of this figure. Other then the sculpting of the head, everything else is still kinda cool.

I think if I personally wanted to change something (besides the head scuIpt), I guess it would the hands, Flash doesn't come with any accesories, so making fists would be more appropriate for posing and bashing villains.

Well, Flash isn't a bad figure besides me whining here and there, overall, he's still a nice figure to complete your set.
Get him now before he disappears in a flash, puns intended....next up, hopefully I can find a cheetah that doesn't deformities on her face....

DC Retro action Superheroes wave 3 Captain Cold

Next Figure from the Wave 3 of the DC Retro action line is non other then Flash's arch enemy, Captain Cold. Honestly, Captain Cold is my personal favourite from the whole set. Read on.....
Unlike the other figures, Captain Cold suit isn't spandex, too my surprise, it was another unearthy kinda material, now that's attention to detail, Mattel really did this one right.

Besides the obvious, the boots, holster and Freeze gun was done just nice too, instead of updated versions, retro action version of Captain Cold is well retro too, instead of a grey freeze gun or belt/holster, they were done in the retro yellow coloured belt/holster and a magenta coloured freeze gun.

The head-sculpt is great, I just love the smirk on his face, capturing the classic villain and the details on the suit is just perfect. This is one figure that really hit my superhero...erm..super-villain gspot.

If the other figures from this wave didn't do much justice to the characters, Captain Cold sure did, Mattel nailed it! Though I was actually more eager awaiting Flash and wonderwoman to form some Justice team and have a superhero battle royal, right now, I guess its gonna be a rogue's gallery with the top villains thrashing the superheroes, ok, Im just kidding, back to the point, Captain Cold is one of the figures from the wave that is highly recommended.

DC Retro action Superheroes Wave 3 Wonderwoman

Look what I got today, DC retroheroes Wave 3 figures, the assortment includes, Captain Cold, Cheetah, The Flash and Wonderwoman. Case Assortment, 3 Flash, 3 Wonderwoman 2 Captain Cold and 1 Cheetah, so yeap, Cheetah is only 1 per case, making her the rarer figure, next is Captain Cold which only comes in pair per case. I didn't get Cheetah yet cause the one at my local store had some paint job flaws on the face, well, I will be awaiting another Cheetah soon.

First up is the fabulous Amazon, Wonderwoman, just like wave 1 and 2, the figures came in a retro styled cardbacker and blister. Though Shazam is pictured, he is not in the assortment, he will most likely be released in the next wave, adding the picture makes us look forward to the newer figures yet to released.

The DC retroheroes line really looks good in package, I display them all, still in thier package and lined up in a row. I also opened them from the bottom, by using a sharp penknife and slitting the bottom to remove the figure. Doing so, you can slide the figure back and still display them on card.

Here's Wondie out the package, all the wave 3 figures has a new body sculpt, the alteration will stop the hunched back syndrome but you have lesser articulation on the upper and lower body.

Wonderwoman looks great although a tad to slim but hell who am I to complain, the hair bit was held up with a black net, after removing the net, you have re-position her hair once more. Mine tend to stand up at the wrong direction, well, to solve that, I added water hair and restyled it the way I prefered.

The one thing that I didn't like are the opened hands, she can't hold her lasso of truth though you can always use your imagination or attach a thin wire to the lasso to get a nice dynamic pose with Wonderwoman. The lasso is attached with a velcro and a plastic removeable peg, being having those hands, I did not remove the peg.

The face sculpt is not too bad though abit Barbie-ish but I do find the head abit too big for her slim body. The tiara is removeable but abit tricky to reattach back. The costume is good, it would have been great if the bracelets were gold or yellow and plastic belt instead of a fabric one. The boot was just nice and looks good.

Well, overall, wonderwoman is not too impressive alone, but in a set and displayed with the rest of the Justice league, she's a real nice addition.

Next up, more from the assortment....

DC Superheroes Silver Age Batman

Another one of my all-time favorite superheroes, Batman, the greatest detective of all time. Although, Batman has no superhuman powers, the character captured me since I was kid growing up.
Released by Hasbro in 1999, Batman was a Target exclusive, poseability is very good, with the classic blue themed clothed costume. Batman came with a removeable cowl though the mask didn't fit very well on the figures head, I still dig the retro feeling it gave me.

Not much difference in body used from the DC superheroes series, same points of articulation,
The sad news, no accesories, Batarang or anything for Batman to hold. Well, I guess we have to customize him ourselves and let our imaginations roll.

I do have the Guardian of Gotham city Batman too, I just cant find the box to take pictures, well, I guess that will be another post for another time.

DC Superheroes Silver Age Superman

Without a doubt, one of the most iconic superheroes of all the time. The man of steel, Superman, a staple superhero of DC Comic universe. He first appeared in Action Comics #1 in 1938 and is considered the first character to embody truth, justice in the American way.

Here he is from the 9 inch Dc Superheroes SILVER AGE COLLECTION line, released by HASBRO in 1999. Ebay still has them if you keep looking around, you'll find one.

Just like the rest of the figures from this line,
                                                      same basic body with articulation.

Due to the lighting, the blue on my supes is rather dark, but in the pics, kinda looks lighter in shade.

Well, I find the body abit to toned down, I would rather prefer a biggier built body. Head sculpts is not to bad. The capes a tad too short too.

Not the best Superman around but this version is slightly taller then the DC universe ones and shorter then any 12 inch ones, definitely good for any Marvel Famous cover collector....

And yep there's more coming.....
